This practical training course is suitable for cemetery operatives who will be excavating graves using hydraulic excavators (Mini diggers).
At the conclusion of this training course candidates will have updated their operational skills to safely excavate graves within a cemetery environment.

Grave digging Mechanical Excavation Refresher Syllabus
- Introduction to general machine and excavation safety
- Overview of associated legislation, regulation and guidance
- Management of spoil – angles of repose – battering, stepping and forming
- Machine pre-use checks and basic machine maintenance i.e. greasing
- Protection of Turf and Memorials
- Marking out of the grave area
- Setting and stabilising the excavator prior to excavation
- Working with ground support systems
- Bucket changing procedures
- Methods for accurate excavation of single, double and triple graves
- Loading of dumpers or small tipping vehicles
- Backfilling and topsoil finishing
- Post operation washdown and maintenance
