Course Overview

This interactive training course is intended for novice Telescopic Material Handler (TMH) operators who have little or no operating experience. The training & achievement test fully complies with the approved code of practice for training lift truck operators.

On completion of this initial training course, learners will have gained a fundamental understand the operating parameters and techniques associated to Telescopic Material Handler use. In accordance with the manufacturers guide lines and accepted good practice.

Telescopic Material Handler Novice Syllabus

  • Introduction to Telescopic Material Handler safety
  • Duties and responsibilities of plant operators
  • Sources of information and TMH rating
  • Environmental considerations and general site hazards
  • Recognise, describe, and explain the principle components
  • Understand the features effecting the stability and capacity of the TMH
  • Safely locate and operate all the controls of the TMH
  • Use of four wheel drive and steering system
  • Understand and correctly respond to warning devices – ASLI
  • Carry out pre-use safety checks and perform daily maintenance
  • Recognise safe ground conditions & operate within the design parameters
  • Rating and safe loading of the TMH
  • Use of telescopic boom, quick hitch forks and hydraulic connections
  • Operate and manoeuvre TMH in restrictive areas
  • Stack and de-stack at varying heights
  • Safety at scaffold and load out towers
  • Stacking of block and tile packs
  • Preparing the TMH for road travel
  • Parking and shutdown procedures
